International Conference on Breeder Blanket Technology

1 - 2 July 2027

Oxford, UK

The UK Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA), through its LIBRTI Programme, will host this two-day conference at UKAEA’s Culham Campus, bringing together the international community working to advance breeder blanket technology for future fusion power plants.

Commercial fusion power will depend on breeder blankets that can generate tritium, recover heat efficiently and operate reliably in extreme environments. As fusion programmes worldwide progress towards prototype power plants, addressing the remaining scientific, engineering and materials challenges is becoming increasingly important.

Dedicated specifically to the challenges and opportunities associated with breeder blankets, the conference will bring together researchers, engineers, industry and government organisations to share the latest research and developments, explore common priorities and foster new collaborations.

Hosted by UKAEA’s LIBRTI Programme, the event also offers a unique opportunity to engage with the international breeder blanket community and gain insight into the development of the world’s first dedicated breeder blanket testbed facility, currently under construction.

Attendee profile

The LIBRTI Programme (Lithium BReeding

Tritium Innovation) is a UKAEA-led initiative designed to bring together researchers, engineers, technical specialists, and programme leaders working in fusion energy, nuclear science, materials development,

thermal-hydraulics, tritium technology, digital engineering, and related disciplines. It will be particularly valuable for those involved in breeder

blanket research, technology development, testing, manufacturing, and deployment across academia, industry, national laboratories, and government

organisations.

Beyond the conference

The conference aims to strengthen the growing international breeder blanket community beyond the event itself. Delegates will leave with new contacts, potential collaboration opportunities, and greater visibility of ongoing research programmes, facilities, and future events. Connections made through LIBRTI and its partner organisations can support future research colaborations, facility access, and technology development activities.
